Rick Schultz Author, Inventor, Lecturer, Retired Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Surgical Instruments Corporation
Mr. Schultz acquired Spectrum Surgical Instruments Corporation in 1983. Under his direction, the company has grown to national presence.
Mr. Schultz lectures on:
Instrument Processing and Quality Assurance and Cost Reductions Through Effective Instrument Processing and Repairs.
Mr. Schultz consults with hospitals on processing and productivity development.
He is a contributing editor for the books;
1) Sterilization Technology in the Healthcare Facility, Second Edition and
2) Central Service Technical Manual, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eigth Editions.
On May 4, 1999, Mr. Schultz received the “Distinction of Honor” award for his commitment to education in the healthcare industry and on May 9, 2002 he was named Educator of the Year by the International Association. In October of 2006, Mr. Schultz was named American Hospital Association Educator of the Year and in August 2007, Mr. Schultz was chosen by Healthcare Purchasing News as one of the 30 Most Influential People in Healthcare Sterile Processing.
Mr. Schultz authored the textbook, Inspecting Surgical Instruments; an Illustrated Guide and The World of Surgical Instruments: The Definitive Inspection Textbook, which was released in June 2018. Mr. Schultz completed a textbook for veterinary medicine, The World of Surgical Instruments for Animal Health in January 2022. He is known as The Instrument Whisperer™ in the magazine Process, where his monthly column explores surgical instrument inspection and repair.
Mr. Schultz provides sales culture and revenue growth consulting and serves on three company’s board of directors. He is a 2019 graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy and has also been an Entrepreneur in Residence at Kent State University, School of Business since 2019.
